4th Euro-Mediterranean Ministry Conference on Water

Pierre Icard, representing Plan Bleu, participated to the 4th Euro-Mediterranean Ministry Conference on Water that took place in Barcelona on the 13th of April 2010. This conference’s main object was to study the text of the Mediterranean water strategy prepared during the 3 national experts’ meetings set up in “drafting group” (Athens, September 2009 - Cairo, November 2009 – Madrid, March 2010). Though the technical content of the strategy does not seem to raise any issue, the delegations unfortunately were not able to reach an agreement on a consensual drafting. In fine, neither the conference’s final statement nor the strategy itself were validated by the ministers. The relevance of a regional water strategy is not questioned at this point, but the negotiations must be carried on, in the framework of the UfM, in order to come up with statements that will be satisfactory to the whole of the partners.
