On the 18th and 19th of December 2008, the Ministry of Ecology, Energy and Sustainable Development and the National and Regional Development, as part of the French Presidency of the European Union, has organized in Nice a symposium called “The integrated management of the coastal zones for the Mediterranean, from local to regional : how to stop the biodiversity loss ?”.

Conference-debate “Foundations of a Water strategy in the Mediterranean – Water, climate and security Services”

Henri-Luc Thibault took part in the Conference-debate organized by IPEMed (Institute of the Economical Prospective of the Mediterranean World), which took place in Paris on the 17th of December 2008, and which was dedicated to the “Foundations of a Water strategy in the Mediterranean – Water, climate and security Services”. The conference was open by Jean-Louis Guigou, General Delegate of the IPEMed, and by Erik Orsenna, and it has been dealing during the three round tables about the “climatic emergency”, the “water and security in the Mediterranean Basin” and the “strategic orientations”. < More … >

Energaïa 2008, International renewable energies exhibition and conference

From the 10th to the 12th December 2008, the 2nd edition of the Energaïa International renewable energies Exhibition and Conference took place in Montpellier. Plan Bleu and the World Bank have jointly organized, within the framework of the International conferences, a Euromediterranean Day in order to present and put forward for discussion the main results of their recent works regarding energy efficiency and renewable energies. This conference also aimed at capturing the reflections in progress in the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean countries on the most strategic energy-consuming sectors, such as the building, industry, water and transport sectors. < More … >

12th meeting of GWP-Med Partnership Council

The Blue Plan participated at the 12th meeting of GWP-Med Partnership Council. This meeting was held in Rome on December 10th, 2008. It had for objective to review the activities led in 2008 by GWP-Med Secretariat and its partners, to discuss the GWP-Med work plan 2009, to invite all the partners to contribute to the preparation of the new GWP-Med strategy 2009 - 2013 by being inspired of the GWP strategic plan which has just been elaborated for the same period.

European seminary “2012 Marine Targets”

From 9th to 11th December 2008 in Brest, Anaï Mangos participated for Plan Bleu to the European seminary “2012 Marine Targets” organized by the French ministry of environment and the French agency for marine protected areas, under the Aegies of the French Presidency of the European Union. This meeting dealt with the marine European strategy and the different actions that should be implemented and coordinated to improve the ecological stage of marine ecosystems, especially in the high seas, beyond national jurisdiction.

MAP Components Consultation Meeting on Effectiveness Indicators

Jean-Pierre GIRAUD, Programme Officer in Blue Plan, participated at the meeting held in Athens on 4-5 December 2008 and he facilitated the selection of Effectiveness Indicators of the Barcelona Convention and its protocols.
