Steering Committee on Urban Mobility

The first meeting of the Steering Committee on Plan Bleu activities on Urban Mobility was held on February 29th 2008, in Sophia-Antipolis. The steering committee gathers representatives from development partners (AFD, World Bank, Veolia Environnement) as well as experts in the fields of urban planning, urban travel/transport and environment from Mediterranean cities. It examined the whole Plan Bleu 2007-2009 programme on Urban Mobility, the methodology of case studies (Tunis, Istanbul, Cairo, Aleppo, Algiers, Tangiers), regional studies to be engaged, and first elements for the Mediterranean Forum on Urban Mobility and Sustainable Development scheduled in June 2009.

 

2nd meeting of the SCENES project Pan-European Scenario Panel « Water scenarios for Europe and for Neighbouring States »

From 27th to 29th February 2008, Plan Bleu participated in the 2nd meeting of the SCENES project Pan-European scenario panel held in Delft (The Netherlands). This 4-year research project (2006-2010) aims at developing a set of comprehensive scenarios of Europe and neighbouring countries’ (including the Mediterranean countries) freshwater futures up to 2050 in order to provide a reference point for medium and long term strategic planning of water resource development and alert policymakers and stakeholders about emerging problems. During this 2nd workshop, the Pan-European panel, in charge of developing qualitative scenarios, defined driving forces of changes in water resources and demands in the Pan-European region and integrated these driving forces in the 4 type scenarios of the recent GEO4 global prospective report (Policy first, Security first, Markets first, Sustainability first).

 

10th extraordinary session of the UNEP/Global Ministerial Forum’s Governing Council  

From 20-22 February 2008, Henri-Luc Thibault participated in the work of the tenth extraordinary meeting of the UNEP/Global Ministerial Forum’s Governing Council, which convened in Monaco. In the course of the session Achim Steiner, the new Executive Director, presented amongst others UNEP’s Medium-Term Strategy (MTS), focusing on climate change, disaster and conflict prevention, management of hazardous waste and harmful substances, international environmental governance, the ecosystemic approach and the efficient management of natural resources. <More...>

Partnership convention to compensate CO2 emissions

On 6th February 2008, Plan Bleu signed a partnership convention with GERES (Groupe Energies Renouvelables, Environnement et Solidarités) in order to compensate its CO2 emissions caused by its staff and partners travels within the framework of the 2007 activity.

   

7th meeting of the CIHEAM Member Countries’ Ministers of Agriculture and Fisheries

On 4th February, 2008, Henri-Luc Thibault participated in the 7th meeting of the CIHEAM Member Countries’ Ministers of Agriculture and Fisheries. Ms Elena Espinosa, the Spanish Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, opened the meeting that focused on the management and preservation of fish stocks in the Mediterranean and the sustainable management of water resources linked to agricultural production the Mediterranean Basin. <More...>
