Workshop on Sustainable urban transports

Mobility to and in the "cœur de ville": Old cities centers and medina
Marseilles, 29 November-1st December 2010

Programme UD4-CMI

In the framework of the Mediterranean Economic Week that was held in Marseilles, from November, 29th to December, 4th 2010, Philippe Vallouis and Sylvain Houpin, Blue Plan programme officers, have been involved in the organization and the animation of a technical workshop devoted to "mobility to and within the hearts of city: centers and old medina", from 29th of November to 1st of December 2010.

This workshop was part of the "Sustainable Urban Transports" program of the Marseille Center for Integration in the Mediterranean, led by the French Development Agency (AFD) in partnership with CODATU, CERTU, CETE and Blue Plan, with the support of the City of Marseille, the EIB, the World Bank and MedCités, which seeks to organize a cycle of six meetings over 3 years. As follow-up to the conference on urban transport in the Mediterranean held in Damascus in April 2010, this workshop was attended by 75 participants from fifteen countries, from local and central government, academia and the private sector.

Using Northern and Southern Mediterranean practical cases, this workshop helped addressing and discussing such topics as: accessibility to the hearts of cities, sharing of transport modes, parking strategies, urban transport of goods, service activities and residents, sharing of public space and the use of modes, the contribution of new technologies, etc.
