Workshop on improving energy efficiency in the construction sector
and industry and energy policies in Arab countries

On 14 and 15 June 2010 in Algiers, El Habib El Andaloussi participated in the workshop on improving energy efficiency in the construction sector and industry and energy policies in Arab countries, organized by the Algerian Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM), in collaboration with the League of Arab States (LAS).

Over 70 participants representing over 10 member countries of the Arab League took part in this workshop as well as international experts including the World Bank, the Regional Centre of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) and Medenec (Energy efficiency in the construction sector in the Mediterranean). Representatives of the Ministries of Housing and Urban Development, Industry, Small and Medium Enterprises and Investment Promotion, and the National Agency for the promotion and rational use of Energy (APRUE), New Energy Algeria (Neal), the National Centre for Integrated Studies and Research Building (CNERIB), the Centre for Development of Renewable Energies (CDER) and the Bank of Local Development (BDL) were also present. An exhibition with stands of Algerian agencies operating in the area of energy conservation was organized during the workshop.

This conference focused on the results of experiments and projects undertaken by Arab countries in controlling energy consumption, mainly in construction and industry sectors, which alone account for more than 60% of domestic energy consumption. Exchanges of views and experiences have resulted in recommendations that can help Arab countries to improve their energy efficiency programs.
