Barcelona Euromed Forum
The European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMED) held November 5th the "Euromed Barcelona Forum".
The event brought together the main actors of Euro-Mediterranean sectors of water, renewable energy, infrastructure and business development initiative for SME (by about 40 experts for each working group).
The objective was to develop a joint document with recommendations and conclusions can be useful for the Spanish Presidency of the EU in the first half of 2010 and for the future work of the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM). Mohammed BLINDA participated in the Working Group on the water sector. Discussions in this group gave rise to a debate, proposals have been issued on the project priorities that could be useful for future long-term water strategy in the Mediterranean. El Habib El ANDALOUSSI took part in the working group on renewable energies, considered as a vector of Euro-Mediterranean integration. The panellists emphasized the need to move quickly to carry out pilot projects to test the existing financial instruments and expand the Mediterranean Solar Plan to an energy efficiency program. The UfM could turn the Mediterranean Solar Plan into a major Euro-Mediterranean sustainable development project, including elements of technology development, generation of local capacity building in the terms of renewables and energy efficiency, the fight against the climate change, eradication of energy fpoverty and regional integration through the strengthening of interconnections.
