Regional seminar on urban transport in the Mediterranean, Skhirat, Morocco, 22-23 January 2008

Workshop organized by the World Bank, the City of Marseille, the Moroccan Ministry of Interior (DGCL/DPE), the Plan Bleu, CODATU, Medcities, the French Development Agency (AFD) and Ministry of Ecology.
The objective of the workshop was to enable open and constructive exchanges to define new ways to approach urban mobility in Mediterranean cities that could meet the challenges of sustainable development.
Decisions makers, national and local officials and professionals in charge of urban transport met together to share their experiences, confront their points of view, and identify reference points that can guide their actions.

A draft set of guidelines was presented to the 150 participants.
The workshop focused on the following issues: Urban Transport Organization, Planning and Financing. The workshop sessions were organized around four specific topics:
- Institutional organization and planning of urban transport
- Financing urban transport, pricing, public-private partnerships
- Mass transport and quality of service
- Traffic management and parking
The numerous case studies presented were not only related to Mediterranean cities but also included records on cities in Europe and South America.
