Profile of Sustainability in some Mediterranean tourism destinations
The kick-off meeting of the project “Profile of Sustainability in some Mediterranean tourism destinations: The evaluating framework of the tourism activity” has been organised by Blue Plan on 15-16 October 2009 in the UNEP/MAP Headquarters in Athens (Greece). Ten participants from 9 countries attended the meeting co-facilitated by Blue Plan and Ioannis Spilanis (University of the Aegean, Greece).
The study consists in evaluating the economic, ecological and social footprint of tourism in about ten Mediterranean tourist destinations. This assessment aims at identifying how to improve the tourism performance for the welfare of local populations.
