Foundation for the Mediterranean Meeting
Henri-Luc Thibault participated in the First Foundation for the Mediterranean Meeting, that was held in Monaco, on April 15 th-16 th, 2009. This meeting was organized by Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, on the initiative of His Serene Highness the Prince and brought together about one hundred participants including 40 international foundations and NGOs working on environmental and sustainable development issues in the Mediterranean.
After an initial overview on key issues of sustainable development in the Mediterranean, panels of experts, scientists and economic players presented the major challenges that need to be addressed in Mediterranean, with focus on energy, water and biodiversity topics. They pointed out the determining role of foundations to take up these challenges, as well as the necessary synergy between their actions and those of companies, public sponsors, national and regional programmes in a geographical region where each initiative becomes a cross-border issue of general interest.
This meeting provided also an opportunity for the foundations to join forces around projects and initiatives, as well as to propose new topics for discussion.
