Kick-off meeting and 1st Project Steering Committee meeting
of the Regional – Governance and Knowledge Generation Project

On January 24th and 25th, 2012, the Kick-off meeting and the first Project Steering Committee meeting of the Regional – Governance and Knowledge generation Project (Global Environment Facility grant) have taken place in Marseille. Plan Bleu, as implementing agency and recipient of the grant, has organized these events with the support of the Marseille Center for Mediterranean Integration (CMI). About 25 participants from the North, East and South of the Mediterranean have been welcomed during this event.

On January 24th, the signature of the grant agreement, signed by Patrick Bovis, officer in charge at Plan Bleu and by Mats Karlsson, Director of the CMI, representing the World Bank as executing agency of the project, has marked the start of the Project Kick-off meeting. The meeting has brought together representatives from the project’s beneficiaries (Lebanon, Tunisia and Morocco), potential beneficiaries (West Bank and Gaza, Egypt), the project’s main partners (EIB, AFD, French Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development, Transport and Housing, UNEP-MAP), as well as other institutions, such as the Egyptian National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries. During this event, the Regional – Governance and Knowledge generation Project, with the objective to foster the integration of environmental issues into sectoral and development policies of the beneficiaries, has been presented in detail.

On January 25th, the Project Steering Committee of the Regional – Governance and Knowledge generation Project, composed of one representative per beneficiary, has been united for the first time, in order to define and understand the role of the Steering Committee within the project and to identify the first activities to be carried out under the Project.
