Regional conference on the Mediterranean Session for the 5th World
Water Forum
On the 15th January 2009, Gaëlle Thivet participated in the Regional Conference on the Mediterranean Session for the 5th World Water Forum organized by Plan Bleu and its regional partners in the water sector. This Conference, held in Tunis, gathered together some 200 participants coming from different Mediterranean countries. First, it made it possible to inform the Mediterranean water community on the preparatory process and the two components of the Mediterranean Session which will take place in Istanbul in March, that is to say a presentation debate on the future Mediterranean Strategy for Water and a round table on “Water and coastal development in the Mediterranean”. It also gave the opportunity to present the main objectives and priority axes of the future Mediterranean Strategy for Water adopted at the Euro-mediterranean ministerial Conference on Water (December 2008), as well as to arouse the debate around these 4 priority themes (water governance, water and adaptation to climate change, water demand management and non conventional water resources, water financing).
The “Mediterranean message”, adopted by all the participants at the end of this Conference, constitutes in this regard an input to the strategic axes of the Ministerial Declaration of the 5th World Water Forum, as well as a contribution for building a shared vision on the future of water in the region.
