6th meeting of the International Task Force on Sustainable
Tourism Development
Pierre Icard represented Plan Bleu during the 6th meeting of the International Task Force on Sustainable Tourism Development (ITF-STD) organized in Chantilly, France, by UNEP-DTIE and French Ministry of Environment, from 2nd to 3rd of February 2010.
The ITF-STD is a voluntary task force launched after the Johannesburg Summit. Chaired by France, it brings together 18 countries, 9 international organizations, 7 NGOs and 7 international professional associations. From 2006 to 2009 the ITF-STD led a working programme that resulted in the development of capacity building tools, as well as about forty projects devoted to the promotion of sustainable tourism. The ITF-STD should evolve in “World partnership for sustainable tourism” i. e. in United Nations partnership of type II. The aim of this 6 th and last meeting was to discuss the features of this partnership (structuring, organization, governance, eligibility requirements, scopes of activity, costs and financing) and the projects’ selective criteria that could be support. The partnership will be launched officially during the next SDC (May 2010).
