First « sustainable development » Ministry Meeting of the Union For
the Mediterranean

On the 25th of June 2009 the first « sustainable development » Ministry meeting of the Union For the Mediterranean took place in Paris. Blue Plan was representing the MAP at the meeting as well as at the preparatory workshops “water”, “energy”, and “sustainable cities”.

During this meeting, which was co-chaired by Jean-Louis Borloo, French Minister for the Ecology and Sustainable Development, and Rachid Mohamed Rachid, Egyptian Minister for the Industry and Trade, the partner financing institutions EIB, World Bank, African Bank of Development, KfW, French Development Agency, EuropAid, French, Italian and Moroccan Caisses des Dépôts, all reasserted their support to the initiative, as well as the credit line mobilization and the implementation of ad hoc procedures in order to finance the labellized projects. At this point almost two hundred projects would be under preparation, especially those in the energy and transport domain, of which around fifty are at an advanced stage of their implementation.
