The Joint Meeting of Plan Bleu, Priority Actions Program, and Information and Communication Regional Activities Centres National Focal Points took place on 11-13 May 2011 in Nice, France.

This meeting was the opportunity to follow the actions made by the Centres throughout the biennium 2010-2011 and to discuss the Work programme and the budget proposal for the biennium 2012-2013.

A green event

Organized by Plan Bleu, this meeting was a “green event” with the aim of contributes to the Sustainable Development, before, during and after the meeting, looking for:

  • Neutralized the emissions of greenhouse gases, such as CO 2
  • Minimized negative environmental impacts
  • Aware participants in the importance of “greening” their next events

In order to achieve the green objectives, Plan Bleu is based on the UNEP Governing Council and MAP executive coordination panel recommendations and is following the UNEP “Green meeting Guide 2009”.

The Mediterranean city of Nice has been chosen to hold the event. This city has access to France’s second international airport and has been rewarded for its "communal sustainable development grid” approach in the framework of its commitment for Sustainable development:

  • Nice has developed an eco-event charter in order to reduce the environment impact from the events organized within its territory.
  • In addition to its tramway line (planned to be extended to 4 lines covering 36 kilometers by 2030) and its bicycle network, totalizing 1200 bicycles made available to the city inhabitants and visitors, Nice has lately implemented an electric vehicles’ car-sharing system. Thus, by the end 2012, a fleet of 210 urban, family or commercial cars will be provided in 70 stations in the urban community.

The Park Inn Hotel, which was hosting the meeting and participants, has been chosen because of:
