International Seminar on River Basin Management and Cooperation
in the Euro-Mediterranean Region
Mohammed Blinda represented the Blue Plan in the International Seminar on River Basin Management and Cooperation in the Euro-Mediterranean Region, organized by INBO and the Lebanese government. This meeting held in Beirut (Lebanon) from 5 to 9 October 2009, brought together about 110 delegates coming from 26 countries, representatives of governmental administrations in charge of water management, of Basin Organizations already existing or being creative, of cooperation agencies as well as numerous observatory organizations. The conference aimed to define the most suitable actions needed for achieving the objectives of integrated and participatory management of inland surface and groundwater resources and in coastal areas in the Mediterranean region.
During this international seminar, a meeting with head office of the operation of the Ministry of Energy and Water of Lebanon has been held in order to discuss the establishment of an information system on water and opportunity to bring the project "Union for the Mediterranean" on strengthening the coordination of information networks. Conducted jointly by the Blue Plan and EMWIS, this activity was also presented at the session dedicated to the preparation of long-term strategy on water in the Mediterranean.
Note that Mr. Fadi Comair, General Director for Water and Electricity Resources has been appointed president of Mediterranean Network of Basin Organisations (MENBO) for the next two years.
