Regional Workshop “Tourism and Sustainable Development
in the Mediterranean”

Plan Bleu organized a Regional Seminar to share experiences and debate the results of the program of activities “Tourism and Sustainable Development in the Mediterranean”, in Genoa (Italy), on 12, 13 and 14 December 2011, in collaboration with the Istituto Internazionale delle Comunicazioni (IIC).

This Regional Seminar brought together a panel of representatives from international and national institutions, local authorities, tourism operators, associations and NGOs, scientists, and experts from North, South and East of the Mediterranean.

The question of Sustainable Tourism was developed around 4 topics :

• Tourism and air transport: What future for the international destinations?;
• Tourism and socio-economic benefits: a driving force for development in the Mediterranean?;
• Seaside tourism, land use and conservation of natural heritage: What future for the environment?;
• Tourism and labeling: Towards Sustainable Tourism in the Mediterranean?
