Blue Plan at the 5th World Water Forum

Mediterranean Session

In the framework of the Regional Process for the 5th World Water Forum (Istanbul, 16-22 March 2009), Plan Bleu and its regional partners, with the support of 4 rim countries (Morocco, Spain, France and Greece), organized a Mediterranean Session which took place on Thursday 19 March. This session which gathered together more than 300 participants consisted in:

  • a presentation and debate on the future Mediterranean Strategy for Water and its four priority themes adopted at the latest Euro-Mediterranean ministerial Conference on Water: water governance, adaptation to climate change, water demand management and non conventional water resources, water financing,
  • a round table on “Water and coastal development in the Mediterranean” which gathered together different representatives of Mediterranean countries and regional institutions.

Following the interventions and debate, a “Mediterranean message” constituting an input to the Ministerial Declaration of the 5th World Water Forum, as well as a contribution for building a shared vision on the future of water in the region, was adopted.
