The Blue Plan publishes a new report on the state of environment and development in the Mediterranean: « The Mediterranean, a hot spot for climate change? »
The Blue Plan introduces the MAP-Blue Plan report 2009 on the state of environment and development in the Mediterranean. Distributed a few days before the Copenhagen Summit, this report presents a view of the main Mediterranean issues on environment and sustainable development.

The Blue Plan is publishing a new document on “Mediterranean agriculture: toward adaptation to climate change”
the Blue Plan announces the publication of a new « Blue Plan Notes » that reflects the current state of play of the Mediterranean agriculture and its adaptation to climate change. This new Blue Plan « 4 pages » focuses on the growing environmental pressure being exerted as well as on trends and the solutions and adaptations to the forecasted climate change. It concludes on the importance of policies’ implementation including, for instance, national strategies of adaptation.

CIHEAM and Plan Bleu announce the publication of Mediterra 2009 « Rethinking rural development in the Mediterranean »
Mediterra 2009, named « Rethinking rural development in the Mediterranean » is the fruit of cooperation between the Plan Bleu and the CIHEAM. This report analyses agricultural and rural implementations of the Mediterranean Strategy of Sustainable Development (MSSD) and takes a fresh look at the policies implemented in rural areas.

Blue Plan to take part in the 5th World Water Forum
The Blue Plan is to take part in the 5th World Water Forum entitled « Bridging Divides For Water » from 16-22 March 2009 in Istanbul. During this event the Blue Plan and its regional partners with the support of four riparian states- Morocco, Spain, France and Greece- will run a « Mediterranean » session on the morning of Thursday, 19th March.

The Blue Plan announces the publication of a new « Blue Plan Notes » on water
This new Blue Plan « 4 pages » focuses on the growing pressure being exerted on water resources by increased demand as well as on trends and the escalation of problems exacerbated by the effects of climate change. It explains the non-sustainable nature of current forms of resource use and the potential gains to be made through efforts to save water. Finally, it concludes with the main obstacles hampering the genuine implementation of water demand management policies and strategies.

The Blue Plan is granted ISO 9001:2000 certification
The Blue Plan, one of the Mediterranean Action Plan’s Regional Activity Centres, has just become ISO 9001:2000 certified. Certification has come about as the result of the « quality » approach initiated more than eighteen months ago by the Blue Plan staff in its entirety and demonstrates the Centre’s will to best meet the demands of its partners, agents and clients.

The Blue Plan, AECID and the AFD sign a protocol of agreement on setting up a framework for cooperation
On 16th December, 2008, at AECID headquarters in Madrid, Juan Pablo De Laigesia and Gonzalez De Peredo, Director of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), Jean-Michel Severino, Director General of the French Development Agency (AFD) and Henri-Luc Thibault, Director of Blue Plan, signed a framework agreement on cooperation.

The Blue Plan published two new documents of its collection "Blue Plan Notes".
The Blue Plan announces the publication of two new «  Blue Plan Notes » about impacts of climate change in the Mediterranean : Strategies for integrated water and energy resources management to address climate change and Solutions hinge on energy efficiency and renewable forms of energy.

The Plan Bleu has organized the 22 and 23 of October 2008 a seminar in Marseilles about climate change in the Mediterranean. 19 Mediterranean countries were represented.
Organised within the framework of the Mediterranean Commission on Sustainable Development’s work and picking up on the lead given by the heads of State and Government at the Paris Summit for the Mediterranean on 13 July 2008, this meeting first and foremost demonstrated the affirmed wish of Mediterranean stakeholders to adopt a collective approach to tackling climate change issues in the region.

The Blue Plan organizes a regional seminar "Climate change in the Mediterranean" the 22 and 23 of October 2008
The Blue Plan announces the organization of a regional workshop held in Marseilles the 22 and 23 of October on the topic « Climate Change in the Mediterranean ». The set of works will be shared and debate in the presence of about fifty experts and specialists of different fields. At the end of the workshop a program of works and/or actions to take on a near future will be established.

The Blue Plan publishes a study on climate change and energy in the Mediterranean
According to the latest IPCC report, the Mediterranean- particularly its Southern and Eastern shores- will be more affected by climate change during the 21 st century than many other regions of the world. Energy lies at the very heart of the climate change issue. This is what the study shows by providing a full picture of the issues at stake and the challenges which Mediterranean countries will face.

The Blue Plan publishes a new analysis of sustainable development to feed debate at the Paris Summit for the Mediterranean on 13 July 2008
This document draws on the Blue Plan’s work on the environment and sustainable development in the Mediterranean to show what changes have come about over recent decades. It is intended to draw attention to the main risks related to the persistence of current trends and to call for action by proposing strategic guidelines to better reconcile environment and development and to strengthen solidarity between the various shores. It will be presented to all those attending the Paris Summit for the Mediterranean on 13 July 2008.

Ifremer and the Blue Plan sign a framework cooperation agreement
Jean-Yves Perrot, CEO of Ifremer and Henri-Luc Thibault, Director of the Blue Plan, signed a 4-year framework cooperation agreement on 30 June 2008 at Ifremer headquarters. Their collaboration will mainly cover those areas of the marine sciences which are related to the sustainable development of the Mediterranean basin.

The Blue Plan is organising a regional workshop on « promoting sustainable tourism in the Mediterranean » on 2 and 3 July 2008
Tourism is a dynamic sector in the Mediterranean: in 2005, the Mediterranean countries received 246 million international tourists, in other words 30.5 % of global international tourism. By 2025, national and international tourist numbers could reach 637 million in the Mediterranean countries, 312 million of which in the coastal regions alone. In the framework of follow-up to the Mediterranean Strategy for Sustainable Development (MSSD), in 2007 the Blue Plan launched a work programme based on a series of national and regional studies which will be pooled and discussed at this workshop.

The Blue Plan publishes a new document on Virtual Water
The Blue Plan announces the publication of a new « Blue Plan Notes » on virtual water: what perspectives for Mediterranean water management and distribution? Virtual water is an economic concept. It corresponds to the volume of water needed to produce goods. It is usually expressed in litres of water per kilo.The Blue Plan’s latest note provides a full and documented overview of virtual water in the Mediterranean.

The Blue Plan launches a new monthly newsletter
The Blue Plan announces the complete overhaul of its newsletter with the aim of informing an ever wider public about environmental and sustainable development issues and perspectives in the Mediterranean. The newly formatted newsletter will provide for a dual reading mode with, on the one hand, the monthly news and, on the other, a more in-depth, decoded approach to the most essential subjects and trends.
