This Damascus conference gathered about 200 participants from 15 countries; with a strong Syrian attendance (local and central administration, universities, private sector). Opened by Mr Abdullah Al-Dardari, Vice Prime Minister of Syria and by Mr Eric Chevallier, French Ambassador, the four technical sessions benefited from the active participation of the Saoudi Arabian Minister of Transport (Mr Jubarah bin Eid Al-Suraiseri) and from three Syrian Ministers (Local Administration: Dr.Tamer Alhajah; the Vice Minister of Transports in charge of land transport: Mr Rajeh Sarea and the Minister of Transport: Dr Yarob S. Badr).

The Syrian Ministry of Transport has provided the logistics of the event, along side CODATU. This inaugural conference is part of the “sustainable urban transport” program of the Marseilles Center for Mediterranean Integration that aims in particular to organize a six meetings cycle over three years.
